It’s a perfect treat for parties, holidays, or anytime you want a delicious, easy-to-make dessert snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 7 cups Rice Chex Cereal (or store brand equivalent)
  • 1 ¼ cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 18 fun size Butterfinger candy bars (15 crushed, 3 roughly chopped for garnish)

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • ¼ cup salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chocolate Mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips, creamy peanut butter, and salted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until the mixture is smooth and fully melted. Stir in the pure vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.
  2. Combine with Cereal: Place the Rice Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl. Pour the warm chocolate mixture over the cereal and gently stir with a spatula or wooden spoon until every piece is evenly coated, being careful not to crush the cereal.
  3. Add Butterfinger Pieces: Fold in the 15 crushed Butterfinger candy bars into the coated cereal mixture to distribute the candy bits throughout the snack.
  4. Coat with Powdered Sugar: Transfer the coated mixture into a large resealable plastic bag or large container with a lid. Add the sifted powdered sugar, seal or cover, and shake vigorously until the cereal is thoroughly coated in powdered sugar.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Spread the puppy chow mixture on parchment paper to cool and set for about 10 minutes. Garnish with the 3 roughly chopped Butterfinger bars on top before serving for an extra crunchy and decorative touch.

Notes

  • Use store brand Rice Chex for a budget-friendly alternative.
  • Microwave melting can be replaced with a double boiler to prevent scorching the chocolate mixture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • For gluten-free version, ensure all ingredients (especially the candy bars) are certified gluten-free.
  • Shaking the coated mix in powdered sugar in a bag helps distribute the sugar evenly with less mess.
