Ingredients

Scale

For the Crescent Rolls and Sauce:

  • 2 (8 oz) cans Pillsbury Refrigerated Crescent Dinner Rolls
  • 1 (10 3/4 oz) can cream of chicken soup, undiluted
  • 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

For the Filling:

  • 4 oz cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 4 tbsp butter (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/3 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 large cooked chicken breasts, finely chopped (about 2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup finely grated cheddar cheese (for filling)
  • 1/2 tsp seasoning salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 24 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 12 cups grated cheddar cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter to prevent sticking and to add flavor.
  2. Make the Cheese Sauce: In a small pot over medium heat, combine the undiluted cream of chicken soup, 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese, and 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream. Heat and stir until the cheese has melted and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the room temperature cream cheese, butter, and garlic powder. Use a fork to blend these until creamy. Add the finely chopped cooked chicken, chopped onion, 2-4 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream, seasoning salt, ground black pepper, and 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  4. Assemble Crescent Rolls: Unroll the crescent dough triangles. Place about 1 tablespoon of the chicken filling on the larger end of each triangle. Roll up the dough starting from the larger end, encasing the filling inside.
  5. Layer in Baking Dish: Pour some of the prepared cream of chicken sauce onto the bottom of the greased baking dish to coat it lightly. Arrange the filled crescent rolls snugly over the sauce in a single layer.
  6. Add Sauce and Cheese Topping: Pour the remaining cream of chicken sauce evenly over the top of the rolled crescent rolls. Then sprinkle 1-2 cups of grated cheddar cheese generously over everything to form a rich, cheesy crust.
  7. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and the cheese topping is bubbly and melted.
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven and let the casserole cool slightly before serving. Enjoy this warm, creamy, and cheesy chicken casserole as a satisfying meal.

Notes

  • The heavy whipping cream in the filling can be adjusted to achieve desired consistency.
  • Make sure the cream cheese and butter are at room temperature to ensure smooth mixing.
  • You can substitute cooked chicken breasts with rotisserie chicken for a quicker option.
  • Customize seasoning to taste, adding more garlic powder or black pepper if preferred.
  • This casserole pairs well with a fresh green salad or steamed vegetables.
