These Dulce de Leche Brownies are a decadent twist on classic brownies, featuring a rich chocolate base swirled with creamy, caramel-like dulce de leche. Perfectly fudgy and sweet, they are an irresistible dessert for any chocolate or caramel lover.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Brownies:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

For the Dulce de Leche Swirl:

  • 1 cup dulce de leche (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Melt Butter and Mix Wet Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar, followed by eggs and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the unsweetened cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder to evenly distribute all the dry components.
  4. Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined to avoid overmixing. If desired, gently fold in the chocolate chips at this stage.
  5. Layer Batter and Dulce de Leche: Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Drop spoonfuls of dulce de leche over the batter and swirl gently using a knife or toothpick. Pour the remaining batter on top and spread gently. Add additional dollops of dulce de leche and swirl again if you want extra caramel ribbons.
  6. Bake the Brownies: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs but no wet batter.
  7. Cool the Brownies: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely, which helps the brownies set for clean slicing.
  8. Slice and Serve: Once fully cooled, cut the brownies into squares and serve. Enjoy the rich combination of chocolate and caramel flavors!

Notes

  • If you prefer a stronger caramel flavor, use homemade dulce de leche for a fresher taste.
  • Chocolate chips are optional but add extra richness and texture.
  • Do not overbake; brownies should be fudgy in the center for the best experience.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • This recipe can be doubled for a larger pan, adjusting baking time accordingly.
