Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 box (13.5 oz, about 7 to 8 cups) cinnamon or rice Chex cereal
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for coating)

Wet Ingredients

  • 12 oz orange-colored candy melts or pure white chocolate

Add-ins

  • 1 to 2 cups mellowcreme pumpkin candies

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cereal: Pour the cinnamon or rice Chex cereal into a large mixing bowl. Set aside while you prepare the candy coating.
  2. Melt the candy melts or white chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the orange-colored candy melts or white chocolate in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until fully melted and smooth.
  3. Add spices to the melted candy: Stir 2 tsp ground cinnamon, grated nutmeg, ground cloves, and allspice into the melted candy mixture, ensuring even distribution of the pumpkin spice flavors.
  4. Coat the cereal: Pour the spiced melted candy over the cereal. Gently fold the mixture with a spatula until each piece is evenly coated without breaking the cereal.
  5. Prepare the spiced powdered sugar: In a separate large plastic bag or container, mix the powdered sugar and 1 tsp ground cinnamon.
  6. Combine and toss: Transfer the coated cereal pieces into the cinnamon powdered sugar mixture. Seal the bag or cover the container and shake or toss until all pieces are thoroughly coated in the spiced powdered sugar.
  7. Add pumpkin candies: Once coated, gently fold in 1 to 2 cups of mellowcreme pumpkin candies for added sweetness and festive flair.
  8. Cool and set: Spread the mixture on a parchment-lined baking sheet and allow to cool completely, letting the candy coating harden for about 30 minutes.
  9. Serve and store: Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week to maintain freshness and crispness.

Notes

  • You can substitute white chocolate for the candy melts if orange-colored melts are unavailable; add a few drops of orange food coloring to match the pumpkin theme.
  • Be gentle while mixing to avoid breaking the cereal pieces.
  • Store the Puppy Chow in a cool, dry place to keep it crisp.
  • For a spicier kick, increase the quantity of ground cloves or add a pinch of ground ginger.
  • Consider omitting the pumpkin candies if you prefer less sweetness or to keep it gluten free (verify candy ingredients).
