Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 lb Ground beef (or turkey/chicken or vegetarian substitute)
  • 1 Taco seasoning packet (mixed with water as directed)
  • 2/3 cup Water (as per taco seasoning instructions)

Dough and Base

  • 1 lb Pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup Refried beans (can be mixed with cream cheese & salsa for base)
  • 1/2 cup Salsa or taco sauce (adjust heat to taste)

Cheeses

  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup Shredded Mexican blend cheese (or any cheese you prefer)
  • 1/2 cup Mozzarella cheese (optional, for stretchiness)

Toppings

  • 1 cup Shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup Diced tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup Sour cream (or Greek yogurt)
  • 1/4 cup Black olives (sliced)
  • Optional toppings: Jalapeños, avocado, cilantro, hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the meat: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat. Add the taco seasoning packet along with 2/3 cup water as per the seasoning package instructions. Simmer until the mixture thickens and becomes flavorful.
  2. Prepare the pizza dough: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface into your desired shape and thickness and transfer it to a pizza stone or baking sheet.
  3. Make the base: Spread the refried beans evenly over the pizza dough to form a hearty base. For extra creaminess and flavor, you can mix the refried beans with cream cheese and salsa before spreading.
  4. Add the salsa layer: Spread the salsa or taco sauce over the refried beans to give a spicy, tangy kick to the pizza foundation.
  5. Layer the cheese: Combine shredded cheddar, Mexican blend, and optional mozzarella cheeses and sprinkle them evenly over the sauce layer.
  6. Add cooked meat: Distribute the seasoned ground beef mixture evenly on top of the cheese layer to ensure every bite has a savory taco flavor.
  7. Bake the pizza: Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese has melted and is bubbling.
  8. Add fresh toppings: Remove the pizza from the oven and top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced black olives, and dollops of sour cream or Greek yogurt.
  9. Optional garnish: Add jalapeños, avocado slices, chopped cilantro, or a drizzle of hot sauce to customize the pizza to your taste.
  10. Serve: Slice the pizza and serve immediately while hot for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey, chicken, or a plant-based alternative for different dietary preferences.
  • Refried beans mixed with cream cheese and salsa create a creamy and flavorful base layer.
  • Adjust the heat level by varying the salsa or taco sauce and by adding jalapeños.
  • Use fresh toppings after baking to keep them crisp and vibrant.
  • For a gluten-free option, substitute pizza dough with a gluten-free crust.
