Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 lb Ground beef (or turkey/chicken or vegetarian substitute)
  • 1 Taco seasoning packet (to be mixed with water as directed)
  • 2/3 cup Water (as per taco seasoning instructions)

Base

  • 1 lb Pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup Refried beans (can mix with cream cheese & salsa for base)
  • 1/2 cup Salsa or taco sauce (adjust heat to taste)

Cheeses

  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup Shredded Mexican blend cheese (or any cheese you like)
  • 1/2 cup Mozzarella cheese (optional, for stretch)

Toppings

  • 1 cup Shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup Diced tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup Sour cream (or Greek yogurt)
  • 1/4 cup Black olives (sliced)
  • Optional toppings: Jalapeños, avocado, cilantro, hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meat: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat, then add the taco seasoning along with 2/3 cup of water. Simmer according to the seasoning packet instructions until the mixture thickens and is flavorful.
  2. Prepare the Pizza Dough: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface into your desired shape and thickness. Place it on a pizza stone or baking sheet.
  3. Assemble the Base Layer: Spread the refried beans evenly over the pizza dough as a base. Optionally, mix the refried beans with cream cheese and salsa beforehand for extra creaminess and flavor. Then spread the salsa or taco sauce evenly over the beans.
  4. Add Cheese and Meat: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar, Mexican blend, and mozzarella (if using) cheeses over the sauce layer. Then, evenly distribute the cooked and seasoned ground beef on top of the cheeses.
  5. Bake the Pizza: Place the assembled pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese has melted and bubbles.
  6. Add Fresh Toppings: Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, black olives, and any optional toppings you like such as jalapeños, avocado slices, or cilantro.
  7. Serve with Sour Cream: Dollop sour cream or Greek yogurt on top or serve it on the side as a cool, creamy complement to the spicy flavors.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, use lean ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
  • You can substitute refried beans with mashed black beans for a different flavor.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount and type of cheese based on your preference.
  • If you don’t have taco seasoning, make your own with chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and a pinch of salt.
  • To make it vegetarian, use plant-based meat substitutes and omit the sour cream or replace with a dairy-free alternative.
